The EuPN joins the Digital Independence Day

The EuPN joins the Digital Independence Day

Our digital lives depend heavily on a few proprietary platforms. This centralisation limits user autonomy, locks communities into closed ecosystems, and places crucial infrastructure in the hands of commercial actors whose interests do not always align with the common good. Open-source tools and federated networks offer a different path: transparent, democratic, community-owned and built for long-term resilience. I wrote about it extensively in my book “Digital Permaculture”.

Digital Independence Day (Di-Day) invites us to take one small step each month towards such alternatives.

PermaTalks 2026: Inspiring topics in Permaculture – Join Us!

PermaTalks 2026: Inspiring topics in Permaculture – Join Us!

PermaTalks (PermaPuheet), organized by the European Permaculture Network (EuPN), return with an exciting sixth season starting on 15 January 2026 – one lecture every week on Thursdays at 18:30 CET! This online lecture and discussion series features inspiring talks from leading voices in permaculture.

Here are the lectures:

Help Strengthen the Permaculture Movement in Europe — Take Part in the EuPN National Survey

We would like to learn more about the existing national and regional permaculture organisations and networks — to understand how they work, what they need, and how we can better support collaboration across Europe.

Help Us Find a Home for the 2026 European Permaculture Gathering

The European Permaculture Network is preparing a Europe-wide gathering for 2026 and is now searching for a suitable venue.

We’re looking for a place that can welcome around 200 participants in early September 2026 (ideally during the weekend of 4–6 September), is accessible by train, and is located somewhere in central Europe - such as Germany or France.

The event will be self-organised and facilitated using Open Space Technology, allowing participants to co-create the programme together.

Join Us as a Teacher at the PermaTalks 2026

PermaTalks 2026

PermaTalks is a permaculture online lecture series which started in Finland in 2020 - every year in the beginning of the year - one lecture a week - every Thursday at 18:30 CET. Teachers introduce one topic of their choice and teach for 30 to 60 minutes. At the end of the sessions there is usually a Q&A. Lectures get recorded. They are directly available for participants later for the public.

Remembering Joanna Macy and the Work that Reconnects

From 12–15 June, I attended one of the LINK retreats, which opened with a Work that Reconnects workshop. I didn’t quite know what to expect. During my PDC, co-teacher Dan McTiernan had mentioned the term. I later bought a book about it for my wife – which, to my regret, I never read myself.

I found the workshop deeply valuable. It helped me reconnect not only with some of my projects, but also with myself and my feelings. I would recommend such a workshop to anyone, and even suggested it be included before every PDC.
